About the Role
CleanStart is looking for experienced Senior Software Engineers to design and build scalable backend systems and microservices that power our core products. You will work on high-throughput, distributed systems, own critical components end-to-end, and collaborate closely with product, architecture, and DevOps teams to deliver reliable, performant software. This role is suited for engineers who enjoy solving hard backend engineering problems and building systems that scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices using Python (Django/FastAPI) and/or Node.js.
- Architect scalable, fault-tolerant backend systems capable of handling high-throughput, low-latency workloads.
- Build and manage event-driven architectures using Kafka for real-time data processing and inter-service communication.
- Design and optimize data models across PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Cassandra, choosing the right data store for the right use case.
- Implement caching strategies using Redis to improve system performance and reduce latency.
- Containerize applications using Docker and manage deployments on Kubernetes in collaboration with the DevOps team.
- Contribute to and maintain CI/CD pipelines to ensure smooth, automated, and reliable deployments.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following engineering best practices and design patterns.
- Participate in system design discussions, code reviews, and architectural decision-making.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring high availability and reliability of services.
- Mentor junior engineers and help raise the technical bar across the team.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, QA, and DevOps to deliver features end-to-end.
Required Skills and Experience
- 7-10 years of experience in backend/software engineering roles.
- Strong proficiency in Python, with hands-on experience in Django and/or FastAPI; experience with Node.js is a plus.
- Proven experience designing and building REST APIs and microservices architectures.
- Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar message brokers/event streaming platforms.
- Solid understanding of both relational and NoSQL databases - PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Cassandra.
- Practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or similar).
- Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts - scalability, consistency, fault tolerance, and performance optimization.
- Good grasp of data structures, algorithms, and system design principles.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
